Kali: Weapon and Weaponless Self Defense
by Jason Winkle

Kali is an art that encompasses both the use of weapons and empty hands. Unlike most other martial arts, Kali starts the student with weapons training and progresses to empty hand training. Martial Concepts is Jason’s vehicle for passing on his extensive training. This book is designed as an optional handbook for the Weapons and Weaponless Self-Defense classes taught at Indiana State University in Terre Haute, Indiana. It was also intended as a supplement to Martial Concepts seminars. While the classes themselves may cover more material than what is presented here, this book covers most of the important basics and terminology that are the backbone of the class and the essential foundation for learning this ancient Filipino Martial Art.

Jason Winkle is the Founder and Chief Instructor of Martial Concepts, headquartered in West Point, New York. Currently Jason is sharing his twenty-one years of martial arts experience with the cadets of the United States Military Academy where he serves as the Director of Combatives in the Department of Physical Education. Previously he served as the martial arts coordinator at Indiana State University in the Department of Physical Education and as the Manager for ISU's three health/fitness facilities.
